Via is the best thing to happen to me in my life.
Some stories stay with you not because they are dramatic, but because they quietly reveal what’s possible when people are supported, included, and trusted. Matthew Phillips’ story is one of those.
Supported by Via, Matt is a self‑advocate, a valued employee, and a powerful example of inclusive employment in action. His career journey reflects pride, responsibility, and a genuine desire to help others—qualities that have made a meaningful impact on everyone around him.
Matt began his employment path working at Cigars International and later providing cleaning services at the Sgt. Ashly Lynn Moyer Army Reserve Center, where supervisors quickly took note of his professionalism and strong work ethic. Today, Matt works for Crothall Healthcare at Lehigh Valley Health Network, where his role plays a critical part in patient safety. His consistency, attention to detail, and kindness have earned praise from coworkers, supervisors, and patients alike.
One unexpected moment on the job revealed the full depth of Matt’s character. While cleaning a patient’s room, he noticed the individual was in medical distress and immediately ran to get help—quick action that ensured the patient received timely care and ultimately saved a life. It was instinct, compassion, and integrity that guided his response.
Matt’s dedication has been recognized through multiple Daisy Awards and Crothall’s “Gem of the Year” award. Yet for Matt, the most meaningful part of his job is simple: helping others and putting smiles on patients’ faces.
His story is a powerful reminder that when individuals with disabilities are given meaningful opportunities and strong support, extraordinary impact follows. At Via, we believe in dignity, purpose, and potential—and Matt shows us what that looks like every day.
