At Via, creating opportunity starts with creating the right environment. Since February, our Vocational Training Services workshop in Bethlehem has been undergoing a major renovation, one designed to better support the individuals we serve while enhancing comfort, safety, and efficiency throughout the space.
The project began with critical updates focused on accessibility. Our medical room and private bathroom were fully reimagined with new, accessible fixtures, ensuring participants can navigate and use these spaces with greater ease and dignity.
From there, thanks to a generous grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), work expanded into the workshop itself. One side of the space has already been transformed, featuring bright new LED lighting, fresh paint, a durable epoxy floor, and a modern, energy-efficient HVAC system. Together, these upgrades create a cleaner, more comfortable environment that supports both productivity and well-being.
Helping bring this transformation to life is construction foreman Don Dentith – someone whose connection to Via goes back much further than this project. A former Lehigh Valley Senior All-Star basketball player, Don has stayed involved in the community through coaching and has crossed paths with Via over the years through local basketball programs.
Now, he finds himself contributing in a new and meaningful way.
For Don, working on this renovation is more than just another project. Having seen Via’s impact firsthand, he takes genuine pride in helping improve a space that serves so many people every day. He values the organization’s mission and appreciates the opportunity to give back, playing a role in creating an environment where participants can continue to build skills, confidence, and independence.
Alongside the workshop updates, both bathrooms within the space have now been fully renovated, bringing them up to modern, accessible standards. These improvements, both visible and behind the scenes, are all part of Via’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality services in a space that reflects the dignity of the people we serve.
The work isn’t over yet. The second, larger half of the workshop is currently being renovated and is on track for completion later this summer, with the same upgrades already seen in the finished section. Once complete, the entire workshop will offer a cohesive, welcoming, and highly functional environment.
This renovation is about more than updated floors or brighter lighting, it’s about investing in people. And with the help of community members like Don, whose connection to Via spans years and experiences, that investment becomes even more meaningful.
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far and excited to see the full vision come to life.
