Jack McCallum

Jack McCallum began his journalism career covering mostly high school basketball and wrestling at the Globe-Times in Bethlehem, where he has lived since graduating from Muhlenberg in 1971. He also worked briefly at the Morning Call, where he covered the Phillies and college basketball before moving to newspapers in Baltimore and Philadelphia.

In 1981 he began a 30-year career at Sports Illustrated, where he specialized in pro basketball coverage. He also edited the magazine’s Scorecard section, covered four Super Bowls, three Final Fours, two Masters golf tournaments and one trip to the national finals for Moravian College’s women’s basketball team. He is still a special contributor to the magazine.

McCallum is the author of 11 books, including the New York Times best seller Dream Team, and a book about his battle with prostate cancer. Three of his stories have been anthologized in Best American Sports Stories, and in 2005 he was elected to the writers wing of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

He is the father of two sons, both Liberty High graduates, and his wife Donna was an elementary teacher in the Bethlehem School District.
