Tips & Strategies on How to Provide Remote Services Shared by ODP & BSASP

Today we wanted to highlight the use of Social Stories as a valuable tool to help explain important information and teach skills related to COVID-19 with individuals you support.  Social Stories were created by Carol Gray in the early 1990s. They are short descriptions of a particular situation, event or activity, which include specific information about what to expect in that situation and why.  Though Social Stories are typically associated with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, they can be a helpful tool for anyone of any age!

There are a variety of COVID-19 specific social stories available for free that may be effective tools for the individuals you support. As we have previously referenced, ASERT has a collection of social stories available on their COVID-19 resource page.  Carol Gray also has some free stories available on her website. Don’t see what you need in those collections? Why not make your own?
