1984 Central Catholic Boys Team – AAA Boys State Champions

In 1986, the Vikings made a much more anticipated run through the Class 3A bracket, finishing it off with a 65-54 win over Aliquippa. The last boys team to win a state-championship from the Lehigh Valley. “I thought that was our most dominant team because Eddie McCaffrey was a senior and he had sort of taken over,” Schlosser said of that 32-3 team. “Two years earlier when Eddie was a sophomore, he was more of a contributing player. We just had a real good mix that year.” While McCaffrey had 29 points and 12 rebounds in the state final, many felt that the most well-rounded player on the team was Erik Smith, who delivered 18 points and 13 boards against Aliquippa. Bob Schlosser was the coach. Billy McCaffrey who was called up to the varsity for the district and state tournaments. CCHS regrouped from midseason disappointments to finish with a school-record 20-game win streak.
