Via works to provide employment opportunities based on the needs and skills of adults using our services. Via works with Lehigh Valley businesses and adults interested in employment to find a good match and establish follow-along and ongoing supports that meet the needs of both the employee and business.
Via’s Community Employment Program assists adults in determining their employment objectives through job assessments. Via works with local businesses so adults with disabilities can have different types of work experiences to determine their likes, dislikes and skills.
Community Employment staff work one on one with adults throughout the employment process including job development, job coaching and follow along supports. Via staff help adults increase their natural network of support, like family, neighbors and friends, to help ensure job stability.
"I like what I’m doing. I’ve been working here six years, and that’s something to be proud of.”
- Arlene, Via consumer in Employment Services |
Via’s School-to-Work Transition Services works with students who are graduating from high school to help them move seamlessly from school to work. Working with school personnel, Via focuses on job development and training to make the transition to work as smooth as possible.
It has been Via’s experience that when people with disabilities find meaningful work with the accompanying benefits like income and social interaction, their overall life satisfaction improves. Their economic power increases and their self-image improve.
“In my opinion, what has made our relationship with Steve so positive is the support services offered by Via staff. The ‘coaching’ of Steve through the early phases of his employment enabled him to adapt and integrate into the regiment of manufacturing life. Via’s job coaching services should probably be used for every new hire without regard to their background.”
- John Gregor, Vice President and GM, Packaging Horizons
“Our company sees firsthand the impact of helping Via—by the people with disabilities who train and work in our cafeteria and quickly acquire confidence and competencies. We recommend that other companies sign on as a work or assessment site for Via’s employment program, or subcontract with Via’s Industrial Services for packing and assembly work. We encourage area businesses to get involved and make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities served by Via of the Lehigh Valley.”
- David Shaffer, Just Born, Inc.
“It has been a pleasure to be associated with Via. One of the most outstanding benefits we have received from the Via team is consistency.”
- Will Goetz, Plant Manager, Delta Industries
“Nancy is a wonderful worker—amazing in fact. I wish we could hire more people like her.”
- Roberta Smock, Laundry Supervisor, Hampton Inn & Suites
“From an employers standpoint I have found that people with disabilities are extremely hardworking and dedicated.”
- Chris Martin, CEO, The Martin Guitar Company
“As an employer, I observe that people with disabilities want to come to work, are reliable and willing to help out.”
- Mark Burkit, Owner, Specialty Cars
