Upstairs
at Goosey Gander, 102 W. Fourth Street, Bethlehem
Via
of the Lehigh Valley and the SouthSide Film Festival are proud
to present May's Third Thursday film, an important documentary
"Including
Samuel" by Dan Habib.
Including
Samuel (58 mins) was created out of Habib's experiences
with his young son, Samuel, who has cerebral palsy. Habib
and others talk about how existing systems, like schools,
can include people with disabilities whether they are affected
by CP, autism, mental illness, or physical disabilities. His
reflection on his worries, determination, and hopes cause
the viewers to reflect on our own perceptions and opinions.
Accompanying the evening will be Julie DePhillips, Via’s
Children’s Services director, leading a post-film discussion
on inclusion. Two additional short films will be presented
before the feature.
Admission is free. Doors open at 6:45, films start at 7:15.
Refreshments are available for purchase. Related books offered
by Clinton Book Shop with proceeds from the sale benefiting
Via and SSFF. Parking is available on the street and there
are stairs or elevator on Vine Street.
The SouthSide Film
Festival takes place June 17-21 and is a program of The
SouthSide Film Institute, a not-for-profit volunteer-run organization
promoting the art of the independent filmmaker.
