The Via All-Star media selection panel is made up of one representative from the Via All-Star Basketball Classic committee and invited representatives from each of the following sports departments: Morning Call, Express Times, Lehighton Times News, East Penn Press, RCN, Service Electric, Pocono Record, Blue Ridge Cable TV and WFMZ. They will select the following:
• Via All-Star Teams - 8 teams, 10 players per team
with 2 alternates
• Via All-Star Player of the Year, 1 girl, 1 boy
• Via All-Star Team of the Year, 5 girls, 5 boys
• Via All-Star Coordinated Health 3-point Contest Selections,
10 participants, 5 girls, 5 boys
Via All-Star Player Selection Criteria:
All selected players must be seniors in good standing with
their respective teams and their respective leagues. The selection
committee is asked to determine, to the best of their ability,
the best overall players, by position, to represent the designated
teams based on the player’s performance in the regular
season of play. The selection committee may wish to have representation
from all schools in the brackets or they may not.
Via All-Star Teams of the Year: The selection
committee is asked to determine the best 5 boys and best 5
girls by position, to be recognized as the Via Teams of the
year based on their play in the regular season. The selection
process will not be determined by school size or location,
but must be from the list of the 34 participating schools.
Via All-Star Players of the Year: The selection
committee is asked to determine the single best female and
single best male players from the list of 34 schools participating
in the event, regardless of school size or location. The determination
is based on regular season performance and all position players
are eligible.
Coordinated Health 3-Point Shooting Contest:
The selection committee is asked to determine the 10 best
representatives, 5 girls and 5 boys, to participate in the
contest. Selections must be from the 34 schools in the event,
but players do not need to be Via All-Star select players.
2 celebrity shooters will be selected to the contest by the
Via All-Star Committee.
Via Scholarship Awards: The scholarship
award recipients will be determined by the Via All-Star committee.
