Napoleon McCallum
One of the greatest collegiate tailbacks of all-time, Napoleon McCallum ran over, through and around the opposition during his collegiate career with the United States Naval Academy. He has been inducted and enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame class of 2003.
A legendary name at the Naval Academy, McCallum set 26-school rushing and return records, including single season rushing yards (1,587) and career marks for rushing yards (4,179), kick return yards (2,197) and punt return yards (858). In 1985, McCallum, Navy's Co-Captain, led the team in yards rushing, receiving, all-purpose, punt returning, kick returning, and was the team's leading scorer.
Following graduation, the Los Angeles Raiders of the National Football League drafted him. Although his professional career was interrupted, McCallum was able to play a year with the Raiders before reassignment during his 5-year military commitment took him out of the Los Angeles Area. He returned to the Raiders after honoring his commitment for an additional 5 years.
A two-time consensus All-American, McCallum finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1983 and eighth in 1985. Named Most Valuable Player in the 1985 Blue-Gray Game and the 1986 Senior Bowl, McCallum ranks second all-time with 7,172 career all-purpose yards on the Division I-A level. He also ranks among the all-time top 20 in all-purpose yards per game in a single season (216.8) and total all-purpose yards (2,385).
In the 1993 post-season, he scored a career high three rushing touchdowns during the AFC Wild Card Game with the Denver Broncos, which helped Oakland move to the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills. In the Championship game he scored two rushing touchdowns.
During the Raiders season opener against the 49ers in 1994, McCallum severely dislocated his left knee, which eventually led to his retirement from the NFL.
Napoleon McCallum with his Wife Yvonne and four girls Breanna, Cheyenne, Sierah and Jasmine reside in the Las Vegas, Nevada Area. The family moved to Nevada to start a graphics fabrication facility called Digital Pro Graphics. The company operated for 10-years providing signage for conventions, casinos, transit advertising, and business point of purchase. Napoleon currently works for The Las Vegas Sands Corp. as a Director of Community Development.
