Guiding Principles
Via's implementation of its mission and vision is based on the following guiding principles. The individual and family are at the center of all we do. To that end we believe:
- Every individual is valued.
- Every individual is treated with dignity, respect and courtesy.
- Every individual is capable of growth and learning.
- Every individual is able to communicate needs, desires, feelings and personal choices through the experience of person-centered planning and approaches.
- Every individual has the right to be included as an active, valuable participant in the community.
- Every individual has a right to physical and mental access to the community.
- Every individual has a right to an advocate of his choice.
- Via is powerfully allied with families.
- Via is committed to collaborative efforts with family members, staff, other agencies and the community at large.
To support the individual's and family's vision for the future, Via will:
- Maintain caring, qualified, competent, and ethical Board, Staff and Volunteer personnel who have continual opportunities for professional and personal growth and who are encouraged to exercise initiative and to pursue creative, innovative program development.
- Carry out its mission by making use of the most promising professional practices, adhering to the highest standards for service and continually evaluating services and supports while remaining receptive to new ideas and change.
